The SMC is one of the local stakeholders currently participating in a three day virtual training on public access to information. The training is being organised for stakeholders in Eastern Africa, bringing together civil society, access to information oversight bodies and media organisations.

The training is being organised by Africa Freedom of Information Centre (AFIC) in collaboration with UNESCO, Information for all Programmes (IFAP), the African Centre of Excellence for Information Ethics (ACEIE) and the International Centre for Information Ethics (ACIE) as well as the African Union Commission.

The training, which started yesterday, aims to increase knowledge and capacity of stakeholders in promoting public access to information, increase commitments from government stakeholders to establish and strengthen mechanisms to facilitate public access to information. It also aims to develop an action plan to promote the realization of an information society in East Africa in the context of SDG 16.10.2.
